The Troop is going to the Summit Bechtel Reserve July 5-11. This 10,500-acre high adventure and training center in West Virginia is for Scouting America members and the public. It hosts the National Scout Jamboree and features a wide array of activities like zip-lining, mountain biking, skateboarding, and whitewater rafting, along with facilities for merit badge training and family adventures.

 

Adventure sports: The reserve offers numerous activities including BMX, skateboarding, mountain biking, zip lines, climbing, canopy tours, challenge courses, and shooting sports.

 

 

High adventure programs: The Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base hosts programs like the Summit Experience, which offers a week of various high-adventure activities for older youth.

 

Summer camp: The James C. Justice National Scout Camp offers traditional summer camp programs with opportunities to earn merit badges and participate in activities like whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and water sports.

 

Family adventures: Families can also visit through the Family Adventure Camp, which provides a variety of outdoor experiences and lodging options without requiring a Scouting affiliation.

 

Sustainability: The site was built on the grounds of a former coal mine and incorporates sustainability into its operations, such as using ventilation shafts as bat habitats.

 

Facilities: It includes six base camps that can accommodate thousands of people each, along with other facilities like the Summit Center and John D. Harky Ax Zone.
